With an average reading age of just nine-years-old in the UK, it’s key to any business to make sure the copy and content it shares with prospective customers, existing stakeholders and peers, is clear, concise and easy to understand.

Copywriting is not necessarily about knowing your subject, in fact sometimes an objective eye is the greatest tool in developing copy and content that appeals to a reader.

If you know a subject too well, you can often become complacent, assuming prior knowledge, and this will be reflected in the way you write about a subject.

Copywriting is not just about the words you write on a page, it’s about the way a page is laid out generally. Does it have any pictorial references to aid accessibility? Does it feature appropriately in the context of a document? Is there a simpler way to articulate a point using graphical imagery?

In many cases, when documents have already been written and produced, a company requires a fresh set of eyes to proofread and amend information. This helps to provide a better flow of message, tackle any spelling and grammatical errors, and raise questions about the content where necessary.
